Several kinds of hoodia products like “hoodia powder” seem to have entered the market. Some companies claim that they are indeed “made from whole hoodia plant”. But unfortunately, around 40% of the hoodia gordonii plant contains no active ingredient that will help in appetite suppression. Such parts of the plant include: the flowers, the skin, the prickly spines, the pulpy leaves, and more. Only the core of the plant — the flesh — contains the active ingredient that can help suppress your appetite. If your product is made from “whole hoodia plant” it may sound good like the case with some companies selling hoodia powder who claim that the entire plant has been crushed and converted into powder form. Most probably you are paying for hoodia powder that is, in effect, 40% useless fillers that makes the product cheaper for the seller, and much less effective for you.
One company Hoodia-Fusion Powder claims to be the only Hoodia product you’ll ever need, reporting that it does more than any other Hoodia supplement available. Hoodia-Fusion suggests the benefits of its product are the obvious appetite suppression via Hoodia, and also claims to help in burning fat and boosting energy. No idea how there CITES certificate looks like. Hoodia supreme, another hoodia product claims to contain 800mg of pure African hoodia gordonii powder, they do not display a CITES certification. They display what appears to be a certification of their own design. The origin of their certificate is also mysterious.
I would advice staying away from most of such inexpensive hoodia products in the form of powders.
It is important to note that even if the Hoodia Gordonii plant has been dried, crushed, powdered and processed - the cellular structure should still be intact. So, independant lab testings are important here as well.
